Неми филмови (Silent Cinema) von Krste Gospodinovski ist ein in achtjähriger Arbeit entstandener Puppentrickfilm über das Ende der Stummfilmära, der in einer einzigen Kamerafahrt gestaltet wurde. Elizabeth Hobbs kontrastiert in Daughters of the Late Colonel eine Kurzgeschichte über einen autoritären Militaristen und seine unterwürfigen Töchter mit außergewöhnlich experimenteller Bildsprache. Eine vielschichtige Collage visueller Strategien liefert Merrimundi von Niles Atallah, der dazu sagt: „… der Film verteidigt das chaotische, unübersichtliche, zutiefst menschliche Recht zu träumen.“ (tr)

SILENT CINEMA by Krste Gospodinovski is a puppet animation film about the end of the silent film era, created over eight years and impressively filmed as an almost 17-minute one-shot. In THE DAUGHTERS OF THE LATE COLONEL Elizabeth Hobbs contrasts a short story about an authoritarian militarist and his subservient daughters with an exceptionally experimental visual language. A multi-layered collage of visual strategies is presented in MERRIMUNDI by Niles Atallah, of which he says: “…the film defends the chaotic, confusing, profoundly human right to dream.”

Silent Cinema is a coming-of-age story, set in a small theater at the end of the silent film era, where a former movie star clings to the past by screening only silent films. His son grows up in this world, unaware of the changes beyond its walls, until a strange discovery unsettles his beliefs, shattering the fragile bond between them.

After the death of their ill-tempered, controlling father, two middle-aged sisters find themselves adrift, suddenly free yet unsure how to live. An unexpected visitor gradually stirs the courage they need to begin again. Daughters of the Late Colonel is a merry, rude and lyrical animated adaptation of Katherine Mansfield’s 1920 modernist short story of the same name.

A twisted utopia unfolds as singing cherubs melt to the sound of decay. Crafted by a sentient machine from the future, it unveils its own version of paradise.
